Our link tracker feature allows you to create links that can be tracked for views. The system has its own tracker domain with a limit on the number of links that can be created and also on sending rates. We highly recommend setting up your own custom domain to avoid limitations and also be able to tag numbers that click on your links. Here are some useful guides:
- Setting up your shortener
- Creating a link
- Attaching your link to a message
- Viewing reports
- Tagged Numbers
- Click on the messaging tools found in any message compose field.
- On the Link Tracker modal, click on the settings option:
- You will see two options available:
-
Top Level Domain - Allows you to use a full domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) to create tracking links by creating an A record through your domain provider.
-
Subdomain - Allows you to use a subdomain (e.g., links.yourdomain.com) to create tracking links by creating a CNAME record through your domain provider.
-
Top Level Domain - Allows you to use a full domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) to create tracking links by creating an A record through your domain provider.
- If you select "Top Level Domain," you'll need to set up an A record through your hosting provider that will create your customized links when sending messages.
- Head over to your domain provider and look for the A record options. Please note that you may already have one created.
- For example, if your domain was yourdomain.com, you would create or edit an A record and point it to 34.133.125.167
- Copy and paste yourdomain.com into the field.
- Click "Add."
- You will then see your domain added under "Existing Domains":
- If you select "Subdomain," you'll need to set up a CNAME record through your hosting provider that will create your customized links when sending messages.
- Head over to your domain provider and look for the CNAME options.
- For example, if your domain was yourdomain.com, you would create a CNAME such as links.yourdomain.com and point it to whitelabel.cxs.ms
- Copy and paste sms.yourdomain.com into the field.
- Click "Add."
- You will then see your subdomain added under "Existing Subdomains":
- If the A or CNAME record is not pointing correctly, an error will indicate that it is not.
- Delete your domain by clicking the trash icon (
):
You'll need to confirm this action. Deleting a domain will deactivate all of its links. This action cannot be undone even if the domain is pointed or activated again.
- Optional: You can set up additional shorteners as needed by following the same steps.
Once you set up your shortener you are ready to create a link to send out.
- Click on the messaging tools found in any message compose field.
- On the Link Tracker modal, click on the "Create link" option:
- In the next dialog, you will see the following options to add a new link:
- Name: The name you would like to give this link (will only show in reports).
- Redirect URL: The link where users will be redirected to.
- Domain: The domain that you would like to use for your link.
- Tags: Select the tags that you would like to use with your link. When mobile number users view your link, they will be tagged with the tags you've selected. This is only available when setting up a custom domain.
- Click "Save" when done:
Attaching your link to a message
- Click on the messaging tools found in any message compose field.
- On the Link Tracker modal, find the link you'd like to add by clicking on it or clicking the insert option:
- The link will then be added to your message with its name. Even though you can't see its URL, the link will be seen by the contact when they receive it.
- You can then test, schedule, or send your message.
The link tracker modal will show you how many times your link has been clicked under the "Total Views" and "Unique Views" columns.
- Total Views: The total number of times this link has been viewed, including repeat views from the same contact. Please note that there's approximately a 30-minute window for each session. A session is reset based on inactivity. If you click on the link multiple times within a session, it will only be counted once.
- Unique Views: The number of individual contacts who viewed this link. Multiple visits from the same contact count as one unique view. Please note that this only applies to links created with a custom domain. Links that aren't created with a custom domain will not show data for unique views.
- Other Views: Views not tied to a specific contact. This happens when a link is shared outside your contacts (e.g., shared or posted online). IP addresses associated with the views will be shown instead of contacts.
If you added a tag to your link, you can view the phone numbers that have been tagged by going to the Contacts screen, and selecting the tag added your link.
